Shank Size Guide

1/4" Shank: Common in compact/trim routers. Good for light profiling, small bits. More flex under load.
1/2" Shank: Preferred for full-size routers. Less vibration, better cut quality, handles larger bits. Always use 1/2" when your router supports it.

Material Guide

HSS (High Speed Steel): Inexpensive, can be resharpened. Dulls faster, best for softwoods and light use.
Carbide-Tipped: Industry standard. Stays sharp 10-20x longer than HSS. Required for hardwoods, plywood, MDF, and any production work.
