How to Read Ukulele Chord Diagrams

Each diagram shows the ukulele fretboard with four vertical lines representing the four strings (G-C-E-A from left to right). Horizontal lines represent the frets. Dots indicate where to place your fingers.

• Open strings (O) are played without pressing any fret.
• X means the string is muted and not played.
• Numbers inside dots show the suggested finger to use (1 = index, 2 = middle, 3 = ring, 4 = pinky).
• Standard ukulele tuning is G4-C4-E4-A4 (re-entrant).

Common Chord Types

Major chords sound bright and happy. Minor chords have a darker, sadder quality. 7th (dominant seventh) chords add a bluesy tension. Maj7 chords sound dreamy and jazzy. Min7 chords combine the minor quality with a smooth seventh.
