Real odds for Powerball
These odds are calculated from this game's own number format (69 main numbers, choose 5, plus 1 of 26 for the Powerball) using exact combinatorics โ not estimates. Find the row you care about: the jackpot line is what everyone looks at first, but the lower rows are where almost all actual results land. Note that matching numbers is not the same as winning a prize โ which combinations pay, and how much, is set by the lottery operator, so check the official prize table below.
| Numbers matched | Ways it can happen | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Jackpot | 1 | 1 : 292,201,338 |

Why past results do not help
Every draw uses the full set of balls again, so each draw is independent of every draw before it. A number that came up ten times last year has exactly the same chance tonight as one that never came up. The draw-count charts on this page are historical records, not signals. No generator, including this one, can improve your odds. This tool picks numbers at random and nothing more.
Before you play
Play only where lotteries are legal for you, and only if you are old enough in your jurisdiction. Treat any amount you spend as money you have already lost. If gambling stops feeling like a game, stop and seek help. This page does not sell tickets and is not affiliated with any lottery operator.

Frequently asked questions
What are the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot?
One in 292,201,338. That number is not quoted from anywhere โ this page derives it from the game's own format, choosing 5 numbers from 69 and one Powerball from 26. Every prize tier below the jackpot is worked out the same way, which is why the lower tiers have far shorter odds.
Why is the lump sum so much smaller than the advertised jackpot?
The advertised figure is the annuity total paid out over decades. The cash option is a significant share of it, and this calculator uses that ratio before any tax. So a headline jackpot is cut before withholding even starts.
How much tax does the calculator take off?
It applies 24 percent federal withholding to the whole payout, then adds the difference up to the 37 percent top rate on the part above $640,600, and finally your state's rate. Any jackpot-sized prize lands almost entirely in the top bracket, so the effective federal rate ends up close to 37 percent rather than the 24 percent withheld at source.
Does the withholding cover what I actually owe?
No. Twenty-four percent is what is held back at source, not the bill. The gap between that and your real top rate is settled when you file, which is why this page shows the estimate rather than the withholding figure. State treatment varies too โ the state list here includes rates of zero.
Do earlier draws change the odds of the next one?
No. Each draw is independent, and the odds above are fixed by the number format alone. A number that has not appeared for a long time is no more likely to appear next, and one that appeared last week is no less likely.
This generator picks random numbers and does not improve your odds. Draws are independent of one another, so no selection method changes what you win. It is for entertainment only — play is your own decision, and only with money you can afford to lose.
